For over 48 years — nearly a quarter of UC’s history — Darlene Carter has been faithfully representing the university, building relationships throughout the UC family, serving our students, and enhancing the alumni experience for all lifelong Bearcats. So it was emotional when Darlene shared her intention to retire at the end of June 2020.
Since legendary alumni director Chris Demakes brought her onto the UCAA staff decades ago, Darlene has been an always invaluable and constantly positive presence. Thousands upon thousands of Bearcats have come to know and rely upon her, including when we have needed the improbable or even the impossible done. Moreover, the friends she has made over the decades — personally and on behalf of the university — and the benefits that have flowed from that goodwill are too many to count. The Alumni Association’s work requires dedicated and caring people, and we have been blessed with one of the very best. We’re grateful for all Darlene has done and how she’s done it, and we wish her a happy and rewarding retirement.
To honor Darlene’s unparalleled devotion and service, you’re invited to make a gift in her honor to the newly renamed Darlene H. Carter UCAA General Scholarship Fund. It seems fitting that we pay tribute in this way to someone who has influenced countless Bearcats through the years. And if you’d care to share a memory, a story or a photo from your personal interactions with Darlene, feel free to send an email or mail it to the UC Alumni Association at 176 McMillan Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219, so it could be included in a special keepsake scrapbook for her.
