This campaign is in honor of Dr. Ed Latessa, who recently retired after a 30+ year tenure as the Head of the School of Criminal Justice at UC. During his tenure, Ed led the effort to build the school from a small program with six faculty to a national leader in criminal justice education and research.
As an academic, Ed is an expert in prison programs, drug courts and juvenile justice. He served as the president of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), received several awards from organizations such as the American Society of Criminology (ASC), Volunteers of America, ACJS and Community Resources for Justice. Ed was also identified as one of the most innovative people in criminal justice by the Center for Court Innovation in partnership with the Bureau of Justice Assistance and the U.S. Department of Justice in 2013. Ed has published more than 150 articles and co-authored eight books including "What Works (and Doesn’t) in Reducing Recidivism, Corrections in the Community and Corrections in America".
Established in 2011 at the 20th anniversary of the doctoral program and in honor of Dr. Ed Latessa, the Edward J. Latessa Fund for Doctoral Student Support will be used to support the academic endeavors and associated expenses of doctoral students enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at CECH.
